IMMIGRATION EVALUATIONS

What is a mental health immigration evaluation?

An immigration mental health evaluation is an evaluation that is used to help immigration courts determine if a person can legally remain in the United States. An immigration assessment begins by talking to your attorney. If an attorney recommends that you and/or your family members should complete an evaluation, we will collect any relevant information about your case, along with any specific legal issues. The immigration assessment includes questions about but is not limited to: your current immigration status, your personal and family history, your work history, and any medical or psychiatric history that may be relevant.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO BEFORE REQUESTING AN EVALUATION?

  1. Talk to an attorney to see if there is a need for an evaluation.

  2. If the lawyer recommends that you obtain an evaluation, you should ask for a document that describes exactly the type of evaluation, depending on the Visa for which you are applying.

  3. Make an initial appointment and provide relevant supporting documentation.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW:

  • The assessment DOES NOT guarantee you will obtain a VISA or a permit to stay in the United States.

  • The evaluation has a cost that must be paid directly by the client.  It is not covered by health insurance.
